Deuteronomy 6:5-7 “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.”
What do these verses have to say about parenting? A lot! Consider these thoughts.
- Start with God (v5)
On whom should we focus? Not ourselves. Not our children. God. When He is our primary focus, all other relationships are free to flourish and grow.
- Prioritize our input (v6)
We live in times of abundant information. God’s word is an amazing filter for helping us navigate it all.
- Recognize Moments Matter (v7)
Just as the Israelites were challenged to talk about God’s laws in everyday moments, so can we take advantage of everyday opportunity moments to parent.
